Installing the Card

If your system came with the TV tuner card installed, you can skip this section.

Before opening your system case, read and follow these preventions and precautions to prevent damage from static electricity.

Caution!
Preventing Static Electricity Damage

The components inside your system are extremely sensitive to static electricity, also known as electrostatic discharge (ESD). Static electricity can cause irreparable damage to your system; however, if you follow these preventions and precautions, you should prevent such damage.

Static Electricity Preventions

  1. WEAR A GROUNDING WRIST STRAP (available at most electronic stores).
  2. Turn off the system power.
  3. Touch the back of the power supply fan, located on the back of the case.
  4. UNPLUG ALL CORDS FROM WALL OUTLET.
  5. Remove the system case cover.

Static Electricity Precautions

  • Avoid static-causing surfaces such as plastic and styrofoam in your work area.
  • Remove parts from their antistatic bags only when you are ready to use it. Do not lay parts on the outside of antistatic bags since only the inside provides antistatic protection.
  • Always hold cards by their edges and their metal mounting bracket. Avoid touching components on the cards and the edge connectors that connect to expansion slots.
  • Never slide cards or other parts over any surface.

To install the card:

  1. Power down your system and remove the case.
  2. Locate an unused PCI bus slot; remove its slot cover and save the screw.
  3. Press the card straight into the slot. Make sure that you push evenly on both edges until the card is firmly seated. It’s OK to slightly seesaw a card end-to-end as you work it into the slot, but do not bend the card sideways.
  4. Using the screw you removed in Step 2, fasten the card to the system case.
  5. Connect the provided internal audio cable from the internal audio connector on the TV tuner card to the internal audio connector on your sound card.
  6. Replace the system’s case cover.
  7. Attach the provided FM antenna cable to the provided 75 Ohm F-connector.

  8. With a Philips-head screwdriver, loosen the screws on the connector enough to slide the antenna’s prongs beneath them. Secure the prongs by tightening the screws.
  9. Plug the FM antenna cable into the FM radio input coaxial connector.
  10. Plug your cable TV cable to the TV signal input coaxial connector.
  11. Continue with the next section, "Installing the Software."

  9. Select one of these compression methods and click on OK. Make sure you have a hardware Codec installed if you select the Cinepak Codec by Radious option. The options available in the list displayed here and the list displayed on your screen may differ.
    Note:
Compression can also be selected from the Options menu. The same dialog box as the one pictured here appears.
  10. When all options are set, click on OK in the Capture Video Sequence dialog box.
  11. The first time you use VidCap, the Set Capture File dialog box appears. In this dialog box, you can set the path you want the file to be saved to and name the file.

Unless you change the name of the .AVI file every time you take a new video capture, the capture program will overwrite the default file capture.avi. Select Set Capture File from the File menu to view this dialog box if you are taking a new capture file and want to change the file name.

  12. The first time you use VidCap, the Set File Size dialog box appears. In this dialog box, you can set the amount of hard disk drive space you want the capture file to use. Click on OK.

  13. A window appears asking if you want to begin capturing. Click on OK to begin capturing frames.

  14. Click once anywhere in the VidCap window to stop capturing frames.
